Words From Shannon
A common cause of unhappiness?
Not truly knowing what you want. You may feel a vague sense of loneliness, jealously, anger or even just plain boredom but you just can’t “put our finger on it”. It’s time to look deep within yourself and confront the things that are preventing you from achieving your true, potential happiness. Many people find this difficult because it may bring up a lot of negativity from the past, it might force you to become honest with yourself about a current negative situation or, ultimately, you’ll realize that change is looming around the corner…and to most people that’s the scariest thing of all. However, it is not until you truly deal with these things, and tell yourself what you honestly and genuinely want, that you can start to heal and obtain your successful life. Alcoholics don’t start recovery until they admit they have a problem. You can’t start living “the happy way”, as I like to say, until you admit what you need to deal with, what you want and what you deserve.
Everyone has an "attitude of mind"
This is what you are thinking and the way you think most of the time. No one can see or know this but you, but it does come out in other ways. ‘That person is attractive, happy, fun, smart, etc.' are things we think of a person who has a positive, confident and strong attitude of mind. ‘Why is that person so miserable?’, ‘they are rude’, ‘I don't like hanging out with that person' and 'they are so impatient’ are things we think of a person who has a negative, low self-worth, clouded and/or lonely attitude of mind. In other words, the way you think about yourself consistently will come out in ways that make other people think similar or the same things about you. You have that control. Use it.
Taking your feelings off auto pilot
Many people are not aware of the power of good feelings and so your feelings become reactions or responses to what happens to you rather than realizing your own role in the current situation. When something good happens, well, you feel good; but, when something bad happens you feel bad. If you're always reacting from those bad feelings to that negative situation, more negativity will arise around you and within you. Instead of feeding into the cycle, in a situation today, try to take your feelings off auto pilot and become aware of your own reactions and role. You cannot change other people but you can deliberately change how you react to something and how you view and feel about it.
Engaging with Shannon through Stepping Forward, Inc. was one of the best decisions I have ever made. I was stick in a rut with my academics. I wanted a change but didn't know which direction to turn, so I took a year off from college. In that year I knew I had to figure out my next move, but I had hit a wall. I then read about Stepping Forward, Inc. Shannon was exactly what I needed! She dug deeper than I did, first starting with a strong evaluation of my character and what I expect out of life. She did amazing research into possible academic fields and introduced my current major, Kinesiology, to me. I've never heard of this field, but after reading about it, I realized it was exactly what I was looking for! She researched the whole package, including which schools offer the best programs, course requirements and descriptions, financial aid, and future career choices (including information about salary, work environment, and hiring outlook). I was so impressed with her attitude, encouragements, patience, positive character, and overall excitement to solve my huge problem. I've recently graduated with my Bachelor's degree in Kinesiology and plan on attending physical therapy school in the future. Shannon can help you reach your fullest potential and happiness just like she did with me!
Working with Shannon has changed my entire life. Shannon provided me with the tools I needed to heal, grow, learn and take control of my life. After working with Shannon I feel like I have the power to live my life as I have always wanted. Her positive, upbeat, professional and honest approach was nothing short of amazing. I always felt like she was committed to helping me through whatever I needed her to. I would highly recommend Shannon to anyone who is ready to take a step forward.
I had hit a wall and I wasn't sure how to get over it. Every day seemed to bring me down deeper until I found Shannon. As my life coach, she was able to help me address obstacles, whether large or small, and set goals for myself. In addition, Shannon helped me see my life in a brighter aspect which allowed for new challenges and opportunities to be welcomed rather than shut down by constant negativity. I have never appreciated living my life as much as I do now.
